Ancient Wisdom for the Modern Wired World:
Home, Sweet Home |
May your walls know joy, may every room hold laughter and every window open to possibility.
As the body is the temple of the soul, the Vastu home or workplace honors the temple of the body. The Vastu home becomes the temple that honors the soul, inner peace and harmony reign and you discover tranquility in your personal sacred space.
The Vastu guidelines regarding the directions and the five basic elements, air, earth, water, fire and space or ether encourages the placement of the furniture. Lightweight and delicate furnishings are placed the north and east to allow positive energy to enter the building, and heavy, tall furnishings are placed in the south and west to hold positive energy in the room or building. The sacred center, where blessings from the Divine flow, remains open and unburdened by weight.
This arrangement of furnishings, based on the unchanging elements creates a rhythm that flows thru your rooms, and the building. Your home and workspace will increase the well being of your body, mind and spirit when the principles and guidelines of Vastu are implemented and incorporated. Positive energy is attracted to your home and workspace and life flows more beautifully and easily. In India, where Vastu originated, a Vastu home is known as a Fortune Attracting Home.
Within the tenets of Vastu, the buildings where we live and work are considered a living entity that is deserving of love and respect. When we take good care of our homes and workspace, they will in turn, take care of us.
“A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.”

Ancient Wisdom for a Modern Wired World:
Spiritual Housecleaning.
Reducing Clutter.
In Vastu, it is very important to be clutter free. It is difficult to cultivate inner peace and harmony if our surroundings are cluttered and chaotic. A neat and clean home can actually lower Cortisol levels.
Clearing clutter is a proven therapy for creating change in your life and decreasing stress in your life. Clutter acts like stagnating pools that collect and store negative energy, preventing you from moving forward in your life; it prevents the joy of free and easy movement. By clearing clutter from your home, all areas of your life flow more easily.
In Vastu, each direction is associated with an element. The northeast is represented by the water element, and influences financial growth. The southeast corresponds to the fire element, stimulating the energy of financial success and recognition. The southwest is connected to the earth element, which supports and stabilizes prosperity. The northwest is associated with the air element is the realm of successful, clear communication, enhancing finances and relationships. The center of your environment represents the space element, which influences the success of all your endeavors.
You can see that clutter in any of these areas will affect that area of your life in a negative manner, blocking success in your endeavors.
By clearing clutter and allowing your environment to breathe and flow, you will discover it is easier to create your dreams. You have prepared for your new reality.

The rising Sun is nourishing and beneficial for our health. The Sun is the most powerful influence on our planet.
Sleeping with your head to the East, the direction of the
Sun, is the best direction for calming, restorative sleep. The direction East is symbolic of the life force, new beginnings, healing, and Enlightenment.
Sleeping South is very good and recommended for recovery from illness or surgery.
Sleeping West is not beneficial and sleeping North is not advised.
The neurons of the thalamus, deep within the brain, are direction sensitive and transmit at different rates when we face different directions.
In a study done by a neurophysician at a University, lab animals were put in narrow cages to sleep. Half of the animals were sleeping with their heads to the North, the other half sleeping with their heads to the East.
In the morning, he took blood samples from them to measure stress hormones secreted by the limbic system which is controlled by the thalamus. Stress hormones make the body work harder and can cause it to fail in time.
Animals sleeping East had reduced levels of stress hormone in their blood stream, animals sleeping in the North had elevated levels of stress hormones in their blood.
It was observed that the animals who slept with heads to the East were peaceful and the animals made to sleep to the North fought with each other.
A physician heard about this study and decided to do a survey of her patients. She discovered that the patients who slept North had the worst mental health, the most depression and anxiety. The patients who slept East were sleeping better, were more relaxed and alert during the day.
Sleeping with your head in the East is a very easy way to improve your life, and gain the benefits of the energies from the East. Please try this and experience a positive shift from this one simple change in your environment.

Vastu recognizes that our dwellings should reflect the rhythm of the universe and our connection to all of nature.
The beauty of nature in the home creates a peaceful and nurturing environment, calming to the senses and the spirit. A deep reverence and respect for nature is fundamental to Vastu, the first green science.
Ancient Vedic scholars realized that living, breathing plants are very beneficial and improve the air quality inside the home, promoting clear thinking. Healthy green plants have the power to improve concentration, increase productivity, reduce blood pressure and lower stress.
A Vastu environment includes many natural materials for the interior décor, including wood, stone, glass (made from sand) and natural fibers. In this way, we are honoring our connection to nature, making it an integral part of our environment.
Vastu’s ancient scholars believed that external peace impacts internal peace. Thousands of years ago, the ancient Vedic scholars understood that the surrounding environment influences health. Through the principles of Vastu, these sages created a design science to help restore balance and well being by creating a healthy and soothing home environment, allowing an unobstructed flow of invigorating energy.
